The University also holds ceremonies offshore, dates and locations to be advised. Where to go and whenFor the ceremonies held in Adelaide, you are required to assemble in Elder Hall no later than 70 minutes prior to the commencement time. Please be punctual and ensure that you are wearing the appropriate academic attire - gown with hood or stole (or both), and mortar board or bonnet. Make any final arrangements with your guests before you enter Elder Hall and leave your personal belongings with guests, as there is no security provided for personal belongings left in Elder Hall. When all graduates have assembled, you will be briefed concerning the conduct of the ceremony and the correct way to wear your academic attire. Your attendance and presentation order will be checked and then you will proceed into Bonython Hall to take your allocated seat. It is important that each graduate has his/her name checked to ensure that they are presented on stage. If you do not have your name checked, your name will not be included in the proceedings and you will not be presented on stage to receive your parchment. Conduct of the CeremonyThe ceremony commences when the main Academic Procession enters the hall. The Chancellor/Presider opens the ceremony and introduces the guest speaker for the graduation address. After the graduation address, the awards are presented. Graduates are presented in the order of their awards, with higher degrees such as PhD or Masters awarded first, followed by Graduate Diplomas, Bachelor degrees etc.
At an appropriate time, you will be signalled to stand and move to the correct position on or near the stage in preparation for your presentation to the Chancellor/Presider. When called, you will move forward to meet and shake hands with the Chancellor/Presider, before proceeding to the certificate table to receive your parchment. The ceremony is concluded by the departure of the Academic Procession. How long does the ceremony take?Generally the ceremony takes 1 hour. For larger ceremonies, or where special awards are being conferred, it may take up to 90 minutes. Guests, graduates and staff must remain in the Hall for the duration of the ceremony. Arriving LateIf, for some reason, you are running late, please contact the Graduations Office immediately and alert them that you are still attending. If you do not have your name checked prior to the ceremony, your name will be removed from the proceedings and you will not be presented on stage. If you arrive late and miss your briefing you must report to the Check Desk on the eastern side of Bonython Hall as soon as possible to confirm your attendance and presentation on stage. Failure to AttendIf you have indicated that you will attend your presentation ceremony but are unable to attend, your parchment will be made available for collection from the Student Centre (Level 4, Wills Building, North Terrace) approximately three weeks after your ceremony date. ParkingPlease note that parking on University grounds is not allowed unless you have a valid University Parking Permit. This restriction includes the underground car park next to Bonython Hall (only open to the public after 4.30pm). Parking on University grounds without a valid University Parking Permit will incur an infringement fine.
