I Want to Attend a Ceremony

Our presentation ceremonies are held in April/May and September in Bonython Hall at the North Terrace Campus.

Graduates are eligible to apply to attend a graduation ceremony that is held within 12 months of the date of conferral of their award. After 12 months, your only option to receive your testamur is In Absentia.

Please note: the below steps are only applicable once you have been conferred in your award. If you have not yet been conferred, please refer to the information about how to apply for conferral.

  • Step 1: check your ceremony attendance confirmation letter

One to two months prior to your ceremony, you will be issued with a Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter in MyAdelaide. Once released, the letter can be found under Graduations > Conferral applications.

This letter will contain the date and time of your ceremony, as well as other important information about ordering Academic Dress and accessing your guest tickets.

If you are receiving more than one award, you will receive both of these at the same ceremony. The Graduations Office will assign you to the ceremony for the award considered to be the highest. You will receive a Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter for each award, stating the ceremony that you have been assigned to.

  • Step 2: request additional tickets (if required)

Graduates receive a standard allocation of two tickets for guests to attend their graduation ceremony. Graduates are provided with an opportunity to request additional guest tickets when they submit their conferral application(s) in MyAdelaide.

If you already have a conferral application and need to update your request for additional tickets, you can do so by:

    • Logging into MyAdelaide
    • Select Graduations in the menu
    • Scroll down to view your conferral application and click Manage Application
    • Click Update next to Presentation Event
    • Select the number of additional guest tickets you wish to request
    • Click Save
    • Review your application and click Update
    • Ensure your changes are saved in the application summary

Requests for additional tickets must be submitted by the deadline. Please refer to the Ceremony Dates and Deadlines to view the additional ticket application deadline for your ceremony.

Please be aware that additional guest tickets are not guaranteed, as availability of tickets depends on the space available in the hall for your ceremony.

  • Step 3: register via the GFP online portal

After your Ceremony Attendance Confirmation Letter is available, you will need to register for your ceremony via the GFP Online Portal. In the portal, you will be able to order your Academic Dress, download your guest tickets, and order any other services you wish (such as photography or framing).

The steps you will need to follow to register for your ceremony are listed below:

    • Visit the GFP Online Portal and login by entering your student ID number without the ‘a’.
    • Step 1: Welcome Page
Select 'Yes I am attending' and click 'Continue'.
    • Step 2: Academic Dress
Select your Academic Dress size and whether you would like to hire or purchase your Academic Dress and then click 'Continue'. (Note: if you are not purchasing your Academic Dress through GFP you may click 'Customise' and then 'Continue' to skip this step - however, please refer to the information below regarding the University's preferred Academic Dress supplier).
    • Step 3: Guest Tickets
Select the quantity of guest tickets that you wish to download and then click 'Next'. The number of tickets in the drop down menu reflects the tickets that you have not yet downloaded. If you are allocated additional guest tickets after your initial registration in the Online Portal, you will need to revisit this section to download your additional tickets.
    • Step 4: Graduation Event Services
If you wish to order any other Graduation Services you may do so in the next step, if not then click 'Continue'.
    • Step 5: Checkout
Complete your details and process any required payment through the checkout. Please note that you will need to complete the check out step each time you download your guest tickets, however you will only be required to make a payment when ordering your Academic Dress.
    • Step 6: Send your guest tickets
Once you have completed the checkout process, you will be provided with the opportunity to enter your guest details and send your tickets directly to your guests via email. If your guest does not have an email account, you may wish to forward their ticket to another guest who will be attending with them, or send it to your own email so that you may print the ticket for them to use.

    Information about Academic Dress

All graduates attending the ceremony are required to wear the appropriate academic dress - gown with a hood and mortar board/bonnet. We recommend wearing neat, formal attire and appropriate shoes with your gown.

Academic dress can be hired or purchased from GFP Events. Students are encouraged to obtain their academic dress from GFP Graduations, who are the Universities preferred supplier. The University does not recommend using academic dress sourced from other providers, as this may not be consistent with The University of Adelaide's academic dress standards. If the style of gown or colour of your hood does not comply with the Academic Dress rules, you may be required to hire one from GFP on the day of the ceremony.

Frequently asked questions about academic dress, including hire and purchase prices, can be found on the GFP website.

  • Step 4: check if you have received additional guest tickets

If you requested additional guest tickets, you will be notified via MyAdelaide and student email if you are successful in receiving additional guest tickets. There are usually three additional ticket allocation rounds in the lead up to the ceremony. Please refer to the Ceremony Dates and Deadlines page to view additional ticket allocation dates for your ceremony.

If you receive additional guest tickets after you have already registered and order your Academic Dress through the GFP Online Portal, you will need to navigate through the portal again to download your tickets. Please follow the instructions listed in step 3 for navigating the portal, noting that you will be able to skip the Academic Dress step and will not be required to make a payment if you are only downloading tickets.
