Rights and responsibilities
Student with grievance
Rights
- To have grievance considered promptly and courteously
- To be accompanied or represented in grievance follow-up by friend or Student Grievance Adviser
- Not to be disadvantaged as a consequence of raising the grievance
- To ask for a note from the person responsible on the outcome of the discussion (students are advised to make their own note of the discussion, for later reference if required)
Responsibilities
- Not to make frivolous complaints or raise grievances without substance
- To outline facts of grievance calmly and courteously
- To outline resolution sought

Person responsible for grievance
Rights
- To be treated courteously by student with grievance
- To seek advice from a supervisor or other appropriate University officer
Responsibilities
- To follow up on grievance promptly, however communicated, and no later than 10 business days after it is first raised by student or their designated Student Grievance Adviser
- To act courteously and try to understand grievance
- To explore options for resolution presented by student and/or other options for resolution and discuss with student or their designated Student Grievance Adviser
- To avoid intimidating behaviours
- To ensure that the student is not unfairly disadvantaged as a consequence of raising the grievance
If the person responsible for the grievance is a staff member, and if requested by the student:
- To make note of any discussion and final outcome, and provide a copy to student within 24 hours of staff member's decision about grievance
When person responsible for the grievance is a student each student is advised to make a note of their communications and the outcome.
