Assessment of application for completeness
A flowchart of this process is available for download.
Staff in the Student Policy and Appeals office have authority to examine appeal applications for completeness, and to request additional information and supporting documents before the application is accepted for submission to the Student Grievance and Appeals Committee.
If the application is complete
If the application is complete, then staff in the Student Policy and Appeals office must notify the appellant within ten (10) business days about:
- the composition of the committee hearing the appeal
- their rights and responsibilities
the date and place of the appeal hearing
If more information is required from the application
If Student Policy and Appeals office staff determine the application requires more information, they will notify the appellant that additional information is required within 10 business days of notification. As a result the appellant may either:
- respond and lodge additional information as requested in the required format within the specified time frames
or
- request more time to gather and present the additional information, in which case a new time frame will be negotiated. The appellant is expected to respond and lodge additional information as requested in the required format within the new time frame
or
be unable or unwilling to provide the additional information or not respond. Student Policy and Appeals office staff may notify the appellant that, unless the required additional information is provided within 10 business days, the appeal will lapse
If additional information is not provided or appellant does not respond
If the appellant is unable or unwilling to provide the additional information and does not respond within 10 business days of the deadline of receiving warning from the Student Policy and Appeals office, the appeal lapses.
