Pre-hearing process
Before the hearing, the Secretary of the Student Grievance and Appeals Committee arranges for the hearing to be held, notifies all related parties of the hearing details and distributes all relevant papers.
Arranging the hearing
Hearings may be held on any business day.
Time frame
Within 20 business days of receipt of the accepted, completed, signed Student Appeal Application and submission. Time frames may be extended due to staff or Committee member unavailability and/or scheduling conflicts, but every effort will be made to arrange the hearing within the time frame.
Notification
The appellant and the respondent(s) will be notified of:
- the composition of the committee hearing the appeal
- their rights and responsibilities
- the date and place of the hearing
Time frame
Within ten (10) business days of the completed appeal application and signed Student Appeal Application being received.
Distribution of relevant appeal papers
The Secretary will bind all papers relevant to the appeal and distribute copies to the appellant(s), their nominated advocate/support person (if applicable), the respondent(s) and each of the Committee members.
Time frame
Before the hearing.
Distribute respondent(s) reply
The Secretary will also distribute any reply to the appeal prepared by the respondent(s) to all parties involved in the hearing.
Timeframe
Within five (5) business days of receipt of reply. If the date for the hearing does not allow five clear business days, the Secretary will liaise with the Committee, the appellent(s) and the respondent(s) to make distribution arrangement that are satisfactory to all parties.
