Making the most of your studies

There is a secret to making the most of your studies. Not only will you enjoy your time at university better, but you’ll be well on your way to becoming a desirable employee.

Ask yourself the following questions to find out what skills you may need to improve in order to become a more successful student:

  • Do you know the type of career you want (can you clarify personal goals/objectives)?
  • Do you study more than the absolute minimum (and understand varying approaches to learning - are you able to be an 'independent' learner)?
  • Have you got good time/task management skills?
  • Have you chosen the right courses?
  • Do you understand and use the required reading material?
  • Are you familiar with staff expectations?
  • Do you act on feedback?
  • Are you able to participate in group discussions and projects?
  • Do you engage in a broad range of activities (social, academic, spiritual, recreational)?

If things aren’t going well, you might like to consider your options. If you’ve got any questions, the friendly staff in the Student Centre will be able to point you in the right direction.
