Unsatisfactory Academic Progress

The University monitors the academic progress of all students to assist them in the successful completion of their programs. The Unsatisfactory Academic Progress by Coursework Students Policy (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/policies/1803/) provides a framework for identifying and assisting coursework students whose academic performance falls below set standards.

At the end of each study period, the Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for all coursework students except those in the MBBS, BDS and BOH programs (see below). Students whose GPA falls to 2.8 or below for the first time, are sent a First Risk Notification letter. Students whose GPA falls to 2.8 or below for a second time, are sent a Second Risk Notification letter. Students whose GPA falls to 2.8 or below for the third time, are sent a Show Cause Notification letter, asking them to explain why they should not be excluded from their program.

MBBS, BDS and BOH students are sent an MBBS, BDS, BOH At Risk Notification if they fail their Year Examination. If they fail a Year Examination a second time, which may or may not be consecutive, they are sent an MBBS, BDS, BOH Show Cause Notification letter, asking them to explain why they should not be excluded from their program.

Program Advisers

Each Faculty has a Program Adviser for each of the programs it offers. Students identified as being at risk are strongly encouraged to contact their Program Adviser to discuss appropriate study strategies and devise a study plan that will assist them to reach a satisfactory level of academic progress.

Student Support Services

The University provides a range of services to help students maintain satisfactory academic progress, including language and learning services and a confidential counselling service.  A full list of student support services are available on the current students website.

Indigenous students are encouraged to contact the Student Support Officer at Wilto Yerlo on 8313 3623 who can provide assistance with a study plan, a free tutoring service or counselling on any personal matters that may impact on their academic success.  Student Support Officers can also provide assistance with a submission in response to a Show Cause Notification letter.   Students are also invited to access the Centre for Australian Indigenous Research and Studies/Wilto Yerlo website on Academic Progress at http://www.adelaide.edu.au/wilto_yerlo/future/services/academic_progress.html

International students, in addition to contacting their Faculty, are advised to speak to staff in the International Student Centre regarding their current student visa. They are also encouraged to access the support services for international students at http://www.international.adelaide.edu.au/support/
