English Language Support

The University of Adelaide offers a range of English language support programs to assist students.  Each Faculty offers a variety of support programs for students studying within that Faculty, or in some cases in other Faculties.  In addition the Centre for Learning and Professional Development offers support programs for all students of the University.  Finally Professional and Continuing Education offers a range of fee based courses to assist students, through the English Language Centre.

University English Language Support Programs

• International Student Centre
  The Language and Cultural Exchange (LCE) program is designed to facilitate interaction and mutual exchange between international students and local students and staff at the University.  The program matches current students and staff at the University with native speakers of the requested language.

  Talking with Aussies: This Volunteer Program currently has about 170 trained volunteers who work with international students. Volunteers are linked with one or more students, who then arrange informal meetings to suit their individual needs and time availability. Our volunteers are men and womne from all walks of life; from those who are actively engaged in work or study but spend some lunchtimes with their students, to retirees with a broader range of time options.

• Writing Centre
  The Writing Centre provides free academic learning and language support and resources for local, international, undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students enrolled at the University of Adelaide.

• Faculty of Sciences
  Offers English language support integrated into some courses.
• Faculty of Health Sciences
  A member of staff is available to provide support for students within the Faculty.
• Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
  Offer Professional English courses as part of a student's course of study.  These are available at two levels, offered in each semester, and are open to students from other Faculties.
• Faculty of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences
  Offers English support programs as part of the Engineering Communication Program credit-bearing courses.

• Professional and Continuing Education
  PCE incorporates the University of Adelaide's English Language Centre (ELC) which offers a range of General and Academic English language programs, cultural programs and English teacher training services (TESOL) for international students and visiting groups.
