How much will it cost?Tuition fees are waived by each exchange institution for incoming students. All other costs are the responsibility of the student. Preparing a budgetWhen working out your budget, you should consider the following costs:

InsurancePrivate health and travel insurance:Due to the high cost of health care in most countries of the world, it is essential that some form of health insurance covers you while you are away. University of Adelaide insurance:The University of Adelaide covers, free of charge, all students and staff travelling overseas on ‘University business’. This includes students participating in exchange programmes. There are, however, conditions of which you should be aware:

HECS-HELP, fees, Austudy, AbstudyFinancial assistance for some students is available through OS-Help. This is a loan scheme administered by DEEWR that allows students to borrow up to $5,299 (2009) per six month study period overseas for a maximum of two study periods. Currently, a 20% loan fee applies, however, for loans paid after 1 January 2010 this fee has been abolished. Please contact andrew.harkersmith@adelaide.edu.au for more information. Read full details of the loan scheme __________________________ Students who already qualify for AUSTUDY and ABSTUDY may be able to continue to claim for the time they spend overseas. This is because they remain enrolled at the University of Adelaide and are still working towards their Adelaide degree whilst they are overseas. Read further information on AUSTUDY and ABSTUDY __________________________ As students participating in the exchange programs remain enrolled at the University of Adelaide while studying overseas, they liable for their HECS-HELP loan obligation or their International Student tuition fees. In this way, places are funded for incoming exchange students. |
