OS-HELP
What is OS-HELP?
Financial assistance for students is available through OS-HELP. This is a loan scheme administered by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations that allows students to borrow up to $6,051 (2013) per six month study period overseas for a maximum of two study periods. Your OS-HELP is added to your accumulated HELP debt.
Am I eligible?
The primary criteria for eligibility are:
• must be an Australian citizen or the holder of a permanent humanitarian visa
• must have successfully completed 1 EFTSL of the program in question before studying overseas (24 University of Adelaide units, which must be shown as passed with results posted before payment will be made)
• must have 0.5 EFTSL remaining on return from overseas (12 University of Adelaide units - not including those contributing towards a Diploma in Languages)
• must be receiving status towards an Adelaide degree for full-time studies undertaken overseas
Eligible students may apply for two OS-HELP loans over their lifetime. Each OS-HELP loan covers one six-month study period. Study periods may not overlap. One application must be completed per study period (i.e. two applications must be completed for two loans).

How do I apply?
OS-HELP is not automatically applied to eligible students; you must apply for the loan. OS-HELP forms are available from the Global Learning office.
Fill in the triplicate form and the banking details form. Tip: Your 'commencement date' is the first day you need to be on campus at your host university - including any orientation or other activities. Keep the Student Copy of the triplicate form and return the rest to the Global Learning office.
OS-HELP applications cannot be completed without prior submission of faculty approval (see here).
Payments can be made to students as soon as acceptance to the overseas program, faculty approval, and a complete OS-HELP application have been received by us. Payment takes approximately 1-2 weeks to process. Students will not receive any notification suggesting they have been successful in their application - the funds will simply appear.
Need a letter to verify that you're receiving OS-HELP funding? Go to 'Forms' under 'How to Apply', left.
