Uni-Capitol Washington Internship Programme (UCWIP)
2 January 2014 - 28 February 2014
The application form for UCWIP 2014 can be downloaded here. Please return your completed, hard-copy application to the Global Learning office by 31 May 2013.
The UCWIP internship is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work in the US Congress while living in Washington DC. This fantastic opportunity is available to all second- and third-year undergraduate students (subject to capacity within your degree structure) and of particular interest to students of Politics, International Studies, Economics and Law.
Successful applicants will be awarded a placement at a participating Congressional Office (Placement Provider), based on their preferences submitted as part of a written application. Students will work full-time for their Placement Provider, performing administrative and substantive duties. They will receive unique access and educational perspectives into the US Congress.
Eligible students should receive 6 units of credit towards their University of Adelaide degree upon completion of the program. Accommodation will be arranged for participants, however all costs will be borne by the students.
Successful participants are selected by the Program Director and the Placement Provider in Washington DC - the University of Adelaide does not have a final say in who will receive the placements.
The internship will run for 8 weeks, from 2 January 2014 to 28 February 2014. You should be available to arrive in Washington, DC between 26 and 30 December 2013.
You must be a currently enrolled, second- or third-year undergraduate student of the University of Adelaide in order to participate (you must have at least 6 units remaining in your degree after Semester 2, 2013 to accommodate the program).
Only Australian citizens are eligible to apply (including dual citizens).
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a high level of academic and professional integrity through a competitive and demanding application process.
You will be required to support yourself financially in all aspects of the program. Air travel, accommodations, commuting, food, visa and so on are estimated to be AUD$8,000+ and an overall budget minimum as AUD$13,000+, assuming an exchange rate of rough parity.
You should be available to attend a teleconference on 2 May, 2013 to find out more about the application process. Applications will close late May (TBC).
