People change their preferences for a range of reasons, and we've listed a few below. If none really match your situation, just give our University Contact Centre a call on (08) 8313 7335 or enquire online, and we can work it through with you.
Firstly, congratulations on a job well done! But this might not be a reason to change your preferences – unless you didn't put down your 'dream' choice because you didn't think you'd get in.
If you chose your preferences based on what you really want to study, just sit tight and savour your high ATAR. There's no need to change.
If you've found a different degree that interests you, it's worth exploring your options and perhaps changing your preferences. Make sure you understand all the prerequisites and implications for changing degrees before making a final decision. Talk to our team at the University Contact Centre if you have any questions.
To be eligible for some degrees, particularly in the areas of Science, Engineering, Maths and Computer Science, applicants are required to have passed specific subjects called 'degree prerequisites'. For SACE applicants, degree prerequisites are the nominated subject(s) completed at SACE Stage 2 level, with a minimum subject achievement score of 10 out of 20.
Sorry to hear it. But it doesn't necessarily mean you've missed out, as entry ATARs do change from year to year. You might want to research other degrees and change your preferences slightly, but it is still worth putting your 'dream' degree first.
It’s a good idea to discuss your ideas and options with our team at the University Contact Centre before making a final decision. There are probably degrees you haven’t even considered!
Don't forget: You need to log back on to the SATAC website to change your preferences – be sure to have the relevant SATAC codes handy. Also make sure that you have thoroughly investigated your options and understand the implications if you decide to change your preferences.
