Adelaide Higher Education Participation (AHEP) Grants

AHEP grants aim to assist eligible domestic students who are in financial need, or are facing significant disadvantage, with small to medium grants (up to $2000) to address pressing financial hardship.

Applications are assessed by an independent Grants Panel according to eligibility criteria and are awarded based on availability of grant funds, applicant numbers and merit of application.

Applications are open throughout the academic year and are assessed at the end of March and then on a monthly basis until the end of October, while funds are available.

For further information refer to the AHEP Grants FAQs below, check the application form or contact a TAS Student Advisor - Level 3, Hughes Building, phone 8313 0100 or email advisoryservice@adelaide.edu.au.

What’s the difference between the AHEP Grant and a Scholarship?

AHEP funds are granted for a specific purpose or items which will enable you to continue with your studies. The AHEP grants are based on financial and circumstantial need which a student must be able to demonstrate.  Applications are accepted throughout the academic year.

A scholarship is an award given by the university or an external organisation or institution to fund the education of a selected student. Scholarship selection & eligibility varies and may have a broad range of criteria including academic performance or financial need.  Scholarships will normally have a specific application timeframe. For further information on scholarships visit the scholarships website.

Am I eligible?

AHEP grants are open to eligible domestic undergraduate students (Australian citizens, Permanent Residents and holders of Permanent Humanitarian Visas) who are enrolled at the University of Adelaide and who can demonstrate financial need. Services for international students are available through the International Student Centre.

What amount can I apply for?

You can apply for any amount up to $2000, depending on your personal circumstances. You will need to itemise what you want to use the grant for. The amount of funding approved may vary depending on availability of funds, applicant numbers and merit of application.

What can I apply to use the grant for?

The grant can be used for any specific purposes or item(s) that will enable students to continue with their studies. Individual circumstances are taken into account.

Can I use the grant for tuition or ongoing living expenses?

The grant cannot be used for;

  • tuition fees & student contribution amounts
  • student amenities fees
  • rent/mortgage payments/board
  • ongoing cost of living expenses that a student would normally be expected to meet

Students who are struggling to meet these costs are encouraged to contact a TAS Student Advisor to discuss options and alternatives.

When can I apply?

Applications are open throughout the academic year and are assessed at the end of March and then on a monthly basis until the end of October.

How do I apply?

You will need to:

  • complete an application
  • provide relevant supporting documentation
  • make an appointment with a TAS Student Advisor to finalise your application
  • your application will then be submitted to the Grants Panel

I need money now for a pressing emergency. What can I do?

If your need is more urgent than the AHEP timelines allow for please contact a TAS Student Advisor or Student Care to discuss alternative options.
