Roles and Responsibilities in PASS Programs
PASS Leaders
As a PASS Leader you will be expected to spend approximately 3-4 hours per week in the following activities:
- Attending in person or via MyUni and taking notes at 50% of the weekly lectures
- Reading relevant texts and do any other preparatory reading in readiness for the weekly PASS session
- Consulting with academic staff as needed to clarify key concepts to emphasise
- Developing and selecting resources for the PASS sessions in conjunction with your PASS Supervisor and other PASS leaders
- Undertaking a weekly 50 minutes PASS session for groups of up to 15 students
- At the beginning of each class, identifying areas presenting challenges to participating students and adapting prepared materials accordingly
- Facilitating discussions and revision of materials by redirecting questions, providing activities for students to solve problems/come to conclusions, and refer students to text books, lecture notes and any other relevant sources of information in seeking answers/understanding
- Ensuring that an attendance sheet is completed for each session and submitted to the identified staff by the end of each week
- Meeting with your PASS Supervisor and fellow PASS Leaders for debrief sessions and assistance with planning sessions
- Assisting with making periodic announcements about PASS sessions at first year lectures
- Assisting in any data collection needed for mid-term and end of semester reports
- Notifying your PASS Supervisor in sufficient time if you are unable to lead any particular PASS session you are scheduled to take
PASS Supervisor
The PASS Supervisor is responsible for:
- Selecting PASS leaders in partnership with academic staff from relevant courses
- Training PASS Leaders in line with internationally accredited training program
- Providing supervision for development of class materials
- Ensuring PASS leaders have necessary resources for classes
- Ensuring observation visits are made to each PASS leader’s class in order to guarantee PASS techniques are being applied appropriately
- Evaluating and reporting on programs

Academic Course Coordinator
The Academic Course Coordinator is responsible for:
- Assisting in selection of PASS leaders for their respective course
- Providing relevant text books to PASS leaders
- Providing guidance about key concepts/material to emphasise in the weekly classes
- Answering questions PASS leaders have about course material and assisting them to respond appropriately to questions raised in classes
