About this production:
First Time Out is an experimental writing and theatre project designed to explore the liminal space between a piece of writing and its interpretation. It is about the common ground between two forms of storytelling and the chance to explore the boundaries of each.
Following on from the sucess of page#1, Scene#1 ... the end and other stories in 2008, we present another selection of writings that in many cases were not written for the realm of theatre but with the intention of exploring the medium of writing, the words on a page. This year's presentation, which we have named Altered States of Consciousness, is about taking the essence of those stories, those words and finding a meaning in them that can transcend the page and live on the stage.
Michael Allen says: "The process is that of essential theatre making.  A group of actors explore a text and through rigorous rehearsal, develop staged retellings. It is a process that hopefully culminates in an entertaining and engaging night at the theatre, one that stimulates the collective imagination of the audience as much as the original pieces of writing have stimulated my imagination from the page."

Tickets for Altered States of Consciousness - First Time Out may be booked through the Theatre Guild on 8303 5999 or online. Phone or online bookings should be collected at the Little Theatre box office no later than 10 minutes before the advertised starting time. In the event of sellout performances, we reserve the right to on-sell tickets booked but not paid for by the advertised starting time.

We offer phone credit card bookings on 8303 5999 (fee applies). Tickets are normally also available for purchase at the theatre on the night of the performance (cash sales only).
Note: Tickets are not available through BASS for First Time Out.

How to find the Little Theatre:

The Little Theatre is a comfortable 120-seat theatre located on the University of Adelaide's Lower North Terrace Campus, in The Cloisters. This is a colonnaded area clearly visible from Victoria Drive on the western side of the pedestrian lights near the University footbridge. The Little Theatre is located in the south-western corner of The Cloisters. After-hours parking (ticket machine) is available in the University grounds: enter Gate 10, Victoria Drive. Please note that there is no reserved seating in the Little Theatre and limited wheelchair access.
