Who is entitled to a Student Identity Card
All students enrolled in academic courses or subjects offered by the University of Adelaide are eligible for the University of Adelaide Identity Card. Students enrolled in Bridging Courses are not eligible but may obtain a library card from the Barr Smith Library.
Those undertaking auditing subjects, short courses, or Professional and Continuing Education courses are ineligible for a Card.
How to get a Student Identity Card
New students are issued with the University of Adelaide Identity Card as part of the enrolment process. These cards are updated annually with a sticker.
To collect a University of Adelaide Identity Card, you must have completed your enrolment and be able to present photo identification to Card Services.
Upon presentation of photo identification, a Card Services staff member will take a photo and produce the Identity Card on the spot.
External (off campus) students who are unable to attend Card Services during our office hours of Monday - Friday 9:30am-5:00pm have the following two options available:
- To submit a passport size photo by completing the "Request for A University of Adelaide Student ID Card" available for download and returning the form to Card Services. The University ID Card will be produced and sent out to the nominated address on the form.
- To submit the "Request for a University of Adelaide Student ID Card" along with a digital image (JPG format). The Student Card will be produced and sent out to the nominated address. Please click here to use this option.
Please note that if you submit your card request during the enrolment period or at the beginning of the year, please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery of your ID Card.

Building Access
![]() |
Card Services processes all valid requests for building access. If you require building access to a particular area, see your departmental Access Control Delegate who will provide you with an authorised Access Request Form, also available for download. This form should then be delivered to Card Services in person, by internal mail or faxed to 8313 8096 for processing. |
If a form needs to be processed within a few hours (for example on a Friday afternoon for weekend access), the access request form must be submitted by 4pm. Card Services will attempt to process all urgent requests where reasonable.
An Access Control Delegate or Reserve Delegate may request that access privileges be removed by indicating as much on an Access Request Form, which should also be returned to Card Services.
Visitors to the University may also be entitled to building access, if authorised by an Access Control Delegate. Visitors, or the authorising area, must purchase a Visitor Card for a fee onto which the access privileges can be encoded.
Visitor Cards will remain active unless the Access Control Delegate has notified Card Services to de-activate the access.
Library Card
The ID Card entitles you to borrow books from the University of Adelaide Library (comprising the Barr Smith Library, Law Library and Elder School Library on the North Terrace Campus and libraries on Waite and Roseworthy campuses), to access E-Resources online and to operate the photocopying and printing facilities in the Library. For further information on library borrowing privileges and services, please see the University of Adelaide Library.
Student Net Access Plan (SNAP)
The allocation of quotas to students is a mechanism by which the University manages access and use of the Internet. The amount of information downloaded from external websites is quantified in megabytes and a cost per megabyte is applied. The University funds quota amounts for some categories of students to enable University related Internet activity. The use of University Internet sites does not count against these quotas.
Internet usage by staff and postgraduate research students will be reported to their associated departments, who will be responsible for traffic costs.
For further information please visit the SNAP web site
U18 Internet Access
Students under the age of 18 years will not be granted access to the wider Internet unless they have provided written consent from a parent, teacher or other responsible adult. Students will still have access to University online resources.
Consent forms will be sent to affected students each year with their enrolment packages. If students do not have a copy of the consent form they are able to collect a consent form from Information Services, Hub Central.
Any student under the age of 18 years who wishes to obtain access to the Internet must ensure the consent form is signed by their parent or guardian and returned to Information Services, Hub Central. The student will be able to access the Internet the following business day.
For further information please visit the U18 Internet Access web site.
Student Printing Services
You are only able to print in monitored undergraduate computer suites while your printing balance remains above $0.00.
You have the option to purchase additional self-funded quota to ensure you can continue to print in computer suites on Campus.
For further information about the Student Printing Service please use the Student Printing link on http://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/current/printing
