LogotypeThe University's logotype is based on the Coat of Arms granted by the College of Arms, London in 1925. This comprises a shield symbol, featuring an open book and the Southern Cross; and the scroll with the Latin words SUB CRUCE LUMEN – which means 'the light (of learning) under the (Southern) Cross'.
The logotype is a stylised version of the original elements with the addition of the words "The University of Adelaide Australia" to the right. It has been designed to be graphically strong and effectively reproducible in colour and mono formats at even small scale. The logo projects a modern contemporary image of an institution that is looking to the future, whilst remembering its strong history. The simple colour palette of black, blue, red and gold accompanied by sans serif typography evokes an image of an institution that is technologically advanced and well positioned to provide for its students into the future. The name typography is an integral part of the university logo and as such, the relationship between the symbol and the name typography must never be altered and the shield must never appear without the name typography. The only exception to this rule is with respect to the Boundary Sign Variant Logo. The shield symbol and the name are both registered trademarks of the University providing strong protection for the Logo. |
