Frequently Asked Questions
The University's name
"The" in the University's name: should I use a capital "T" when writing
the University's name?
When the name is used at the beginning of a sentence, use capital "T". When the name appears
in a stand-alone context, in upper and lower case, you would normally use capital "T". When the name
appears between inverted commas, use capital "T". When the name appears in the middle of a sentence,
do not use capital "T".
University address format
What address formats should be shown on flyers, brochures and other documents?
The preferred address format is incorporated in the design of the standard corporate stationery
templates such as the mono letterhead. In general, the University's address should be displayed as:
Name of Department/Area/Faculty
THE UNIVERSITY OF ADELAIDE
SA 5005
AUSTRALIA
The capitalisation is deliberate. This format was developed in consultation with Australia Post and
should be used in all documents.
