About our new logo

Why redesign the logo?
The University has chosen to revisit its logo, to make it more flexible and be able to reflect the university's branding.

The new logo
The University logo has been updated rather than totally redesigned, so the transition to the new look will not be too disruptive.

Type
The type is larger in relation to the crest than the previous logo, making the text more legible, and the word 'Adelaide' is emphasised, distinguishing it from other universities.
Italicizing 'of' gives a classical feel, and individualises the text when it is used by itself as a logotype.

Font
The font used is Optima: a sans serif font with heavy downstrokes and slightly flared terminal ends.
The resulting effect gives a classical feel without being too 'old world', and allows greater flexibility, sitting comfortably with serif or sans serif fonts.

Formats
The logo is now available in vertical and horizontal format, giving more flexibility for placement.

Imagery
The Southern Cross has been changed to the correct orientation and star placement.

Updating of logo
Updating the logo will be carried out in stages with priority given to those areas that have a high degree of interaction with the general public. The full implementation is expected to take up to 2 years however most of the obvious revisions will occur in 2010/2011.

There is no need to immediately replace existing stock, such as publications or stationery, as the logo will only be applied to new or reprinted items.
