Student Orientation Volunteers
"For me, volunteering is a way to give back to the
community. It has also given me a broader perspective of the world, meet

International Student Centre
Peer Support Program
The International Student Centre runs an Orientation Program for all new
international students prior to the beginning of each semester. This program
provides students with information on settling into Adelaide and the University
of Adelaide, and assists them in completing their academic preparation.
The Orientation
Program provides a great opportunity for students to meet other new international
students, returning international, as well as Australian students, and to
familiarise themselves with the University and its facilities. Family members
are also welcome to attend.
We value highly the contribution our Peer Support Mentors make to Orientation.
Peer Support Mentors form an integral part of helping new students settle
into their life and studies in Adelaide. Each year more than 400 current
students apply for 60 positions as peer mentors. Rewards for participation
are largely intrinsic, however our evaluations of the program suggest participants
gain a lot from the training, friendships formed and leadership opportunities
involved.
The International Student Centre recruits participants for the Peer Support
Program around the middle of each semester. It is a requirement of the program
that participants be currently enrolled students at the University. If you
are a current student and are interested in becoming a Peer Support Mentor,
watch out for a bi-annual 'Call for ISC Peer Support Mentors' through your
student email account.
