The Waite Precinct Volunteer Program

The Waite Precinct incorporates Urrbrae House and its gardens, the Waite Arboretum including TREENET and the Waite Conservation Reserve, all of which are situated on the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide. There are also three separately incorporated bodies, the Friends of Urrbrae House, The Friends of the Waite Arboretum and the Friends of the Waite Conservation Reserve associated with the Waite.

Our volunteers are engaged in a variety of activities associated with these areas. You may work on your own, as part of a team or as member of one of the Friend's committees. The day of the week is flexible and you can choose to work in one particular area, on one specific task or rotate between a variety of areas and tasks. Tasks include working in the gardens, arboretum or reserve, documenting historical collections, tour guiding and planning special events and fundraising activities.

The work undertaken by Volunteers at the Waite is seen as vital to the development and maintenance of this important part of South Australia's heritage. Whether you can spare a few hours a week, a fortnight, a month or just on special occasions, your skills and assistance will be greatly appreciated by us at the University of Adelaide.

Urrbrae House
Volunteers at Urrbrae House and the nearby Coach House are involved in researching and learning the history of these buildings and the people who lived and worked here. They also act as guides for visitors and care for and document the significant collections of furniture, memorabilia and scientific material. Volunteers also participate in planning and organising the many social, cultural and fundraising events that take place at Urrbrae House.

The Waite Conservation Reserve
Volunteers of the Waite Conservation Reserve are involved in conservation and restoration of the native flora, weed control, seed collection, plant propagation, surveys of plants and animals, preparation of herbarium specimens, maintenance of the trails, preparation of interpretive material and giving guided tours.
