Manager
Teresa Fowles (Dip. Mgt).
Teresa worked for Professor Graham in the Crop Nutrition Group since 1990 and has managed WAS since 1997, leading a dedicated and efficient team of hard-working people. Teresa’s policy of continuous improvement has meant WAS has been able to maintain high annual throughputs while assessing and incorporating innovations to improve the quality and timeliness of outputs. Teresa is currently the South Australian representative on the executive of ASPAC (Australasian Soil and Plant Analysis Council).
Senior Analyst (full time)
Lyndon Palmer (B.Sc.)
Lyndon has been a chemical analyst for more than 30 years. Much of that time was in the Elemental Analysis Division of the State Chemistry Laboratory of South Australia, he was head of Division when the S.A. government disbanded the Laboratory. Lyndon then worked for NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities) as an auditor before joining Waite Analytical Services in 1998. Lyndon's skills in all matters relating to ICPOES and ICPMS analysis alongwith his expertise in data management and quality control have raised Waite Analytical Services to an international bench-mark laboratory particularly for the analysis of Fe and Zn. Lyndon's recent involvement in an IFPRI project to build trace-element analysis capacity in the third world , has helped laboratories in India, China, Mexico and Nigeria.
Scientific Officer (part time)
Matthew Wheal (PhD)
Matthew did his PhD with Professor Graham and has held post-doctoral research positions with Cornell University and CSIRO Plant Industry, studying crop nutrition of various annual and perennial species in hydroponic and field situations. Matthew is bringing his research and writing skills to WAS and is in the process of writing some WAS methods for publication in scientific journals. The outcome of our continuous improvement policy will hopefully benefit other laboratories.
Technicians
The consistently high quality of WAS outputs is credited to the team of dedicated, highly-trained technicians:
Carolyn has worked for Waite Analytical Services since 1996. Carolyn has a thorough knowledge of routine digestion procedures and is skilled in all the processes of the sample preparation and digestion laboratories where approximately 30,000 samples are digested each year.
Deidre joined Waite Analytical Services in 2001. Deidre has many years of experience in a wide variety of laboratories including research, food industry and medical. This experience makes her a very suitable person to meet the demands of a Trace Element focussed laboratory.
Katie KopeckyKatie is the newest member of the WAS team starting in January 2010. Katie comes to us with wide experience in the commercial sector, with particular experience in quality control.
