History

In 1982 recordings took place in the converted shower, the big room and various other locations around CASM, none of them soundproofed.

Recordings from these earlier days at CASM were achieved on location, with field recordings for some of the traditional music, and on two-track and eventually four-track reel-to-reel machines.

Recordings for the first CASM blues group in 1982 were produced and recorded at Soundtrack Australia in Adelaide. Later, the recordings of Indulkana Suite and Urban Corroboree were made at the ABC Studios in Adelaide.

But in 1998 and 1999 after many discussions and numerous meetings CASM was at last able to secure funding for the much needed upgrade to the CASM Recording Studio.

Now CASM is at the start of another lifetime of recordings using the absolute latest in digital recording technology.

The CASM Studio is equipped with:

  • a wide range of professional recording microphones
  • drum kit
  • guitars and amps
  • baby grand piano

The CASM Studio is available for hire to non-the University of Adelaide clients outside of CASM teaching hours (course to availability).
