Indigenous Health Unit
An Indigenous Health Unit has been established in the Department of General Practice, Medical School, The University of Adelaide.
Primarily, the role is to develop cooperative strategies with both The Centre for Australian Indigenous Research & Studies, Wilto Yerlo / CASM, and the Medical School regarding cultural issues, and to develop a strategic plan document which identifies recommendations and a long term approach to Indigenous education in the Medical School.
A project officer has been appointed to: support potential students through the application, assessment and admissions process; establish a potential student database; establish a monitoring/mentoring system, particularly from the secondary school sector; and establish networks with South Australian Aboriginal communities and organisations, particularly in the health and education sector.
