Mentoring
Starting University can be daunting as well as exciting!
- How do you find your way around?
- Where do you even begin to find out what you need to know about uni life?
If you are coming from interstate or from a rural or regional area, the challenges are even greater than for other students.
SmoothStart is a free program designed to help first year students experience an easier and more enjoyable transition to University life. Wilto Yerlo in conjunction with Smoothstart offers a mentoring program specifically for experienced Indigenous students to mentor new Indigenous students
If you register for SmoothStart you will:
- Be supported by SmoothStart staff and mentors.
- Have your own Indigenous Peer Mentor, an experienced University of Adelaide student who can help you and be your guide to university life.
- Meet other first year students in a fun and relaxed way.
- Get to know the campus and the services university has to offer.
- Receive information about how to improve your study skills, find out some of the differences between university and high school styles of study and learn where to get help with your academic work.
- Be invited to SmoothStart social activities throughout the semester (can you smell the sausages and pizza already?!).
To apply for the Smoothstart program you can download an application form here, or contact the Wilto Yerlo office on (08) 8303 3623 or email wilto.yerlo@adelaide.edu.au for further information.
