About Community Indicators Online
The links that bind a community's economic, environment and social objectives are attracting greater public interest. This is evident by the widespread use of such terms as sustainability, progress, quality of life, and well-being. Community organisations are trying to apply strategies that address these objectives in a more holistic and integrated way and community indicators are proving to be a very powerful tool to help achieve this.
Several SA metropolitan councils are at the forefront of developing key community indicators.
- The City of Onkaparinga has developed a suite of 'State of the City' indicators for their area.
- The City of Marion is developing a suite of Sustainability Indicators in conjunction with the Swinburne University of Technology, due for completion in November 2005.
- The City of Adelaide has developed its understanding and application of sustainability indicators through participating in the 2004 Local Government Indicators Workshop which is a joint-initiative of the Onkaparinga, Marion and Adelaide councils.
Community Indicators Online is a resource to help inform and support the development and application of community indicator frameworks. The development of the site has been made possible through assistance from the Local Government Research and Development Scheme.
Expanding the range of data available online to support community indicator development initiatives will be one of our major objectives over the next few years.
