When we think of personal financial planning the first thing that comes to mind is wealth creation, but it encompasses much more – it is also about securing what you have. With juggling priorities it can be difficult deciding where to start with finance, especially when just starting out and the one often overlooked is protecting our assets. This session aims to provide you with a better understanding of risk and how to manage it; the various insurance products and how they work; and the elements of estate planning. An important session for women at all stages – if you have ever thought ‘what will happen financially if I became ill or incapacitated?’.
The presenter will be Beryl Rowe from Centrelink’s Financial Information Service.

Surveys consistently demonstrate that the level of retirement savings of women tends to be significantly lower than men. This is generally due to different working patterns, family responsibilities and relationship breakdowns. No matter what your situation is, this seminar can provide you with the tools to make well informed decisions about your financial future.
Suitable for women of all ages who would like to better understand why superannuation matters and be more active in managing their retirement savings, it will cover issues such as:
- reasons to take an active interest in your retirement security
- understanding your UniSuper statement
- UniSuper options and components (including insurance and salary sacrifice)
- legal issues to think about
- impact of employment variations on retirement savings (maternity leave and part-time)
- how much do you need?
- ways to build capital for your retirement
We strongly recommend that you bring your latest UniSuper statement with you when you attend the session.
