2012 Professional Development Workshop – Owning Your Career
| Date | Thursday 13th September 2012 |
| Time | 2.00-5.00pm |
| Location | PCE, Level 9, 115 Grenfell Street |
Why should we employ you? This is the question many employers are asking.
Come along to this session and learn how to package your skills, establish a personal brand and communicate all of this to prospective employers effectively.
Taking ownership of your career can be daunting at first. But during this workshop be prepared to challenge yourself to identify opportunities and acknowledge your skills. This workshop will also give you the chance to work on marketing yourself through the recognition of your skills and abilities. You will also be given some strategies to develop negotiation skills for those often hard conversations with your manager. A panel of various staff members will be there to share their own experiences, knowledge and advice. Enjoy networking with the panel and colleagues following the workshop.
The session will include a 1.5 hour workshop by Trainer and Consultant Irene Lee from Leaders Coaching & Training Pty Ltd, followed by a guest panel of staff from around the University who will be sharing their own experiences and helpful tips.
We will end the session with networking, drinks and nibbles!

Background
Since 2005 the WPDN has received funding to run a half day professional development workshop for professional women staff, at no direct cost to them or their work area. The WPDN introduced the workshops to provide opportunities for professional staff women working in areas where funding for professional development was limited. The workshop topics are chosen based on feedback from professional staff women about their needs and also 'hot topics' of interest. Previous year's workshop topics have included:
- Take Control of Your Career
- Career Management
- Take Control of Change! Increasing your Confidence and Competence in the Face of Constant Change
- Choosing Happiness: changing your thinking for success!
- Influencing for Positive Outcomes
- Work-Life Balance
- Manage Yourself and Manage Up
Every workshop has filled to capacity (25 participants) with a waiting list attendance. The feedback from the workshops has been consistently excellent.
