Australian Centre for Plant Funtional Genomics

Wheat and barley are two of Australia's most important cereal crops.

The Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics (ACPFG) is looking at how we can improve wheat and barley's tolerance to environmental stresses such as temperature, drought, salinity and mineral deficiencies or toxicities. Such stresses known as abiotic stresses, are a major cause of yield and quality loss throughout the world and cause significant problems for cereal growers.

Peter Langridge

"Farmers have long used selective plant breeding to improve crop yields and nutritional content. Now, perhaps more than ever, new cultivars of agriculturally relevant crops are needed for coping with widely varying climates, increases in world population, and diminishing natural resources." - CEO, Professor Peter Langridge
