Welcome to the Writing Centre
The Writing Centre provides academic learning and language support and resources for local, international, undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students enrolled at the University of Adelaide.
We offer practical advice and strategies for students to master reading, writing, note-taking, and referencing techniques for success at university. Please note, the staff won't check your work for grammatical errors for you, or edit your work for you, but they can help you learn skills to do this yourself!

- How does it work?
You don't make appointments, just drop in! When you come put your name on the list so the staff can see you in order, then sit down at one of the tables. A staff member will come to you or call your name when it is your turn.
Note that you may have to wait a while if it is busy, and if you arrive after 3:30pm there is no guarantee that you will be seen before the Centre closes.
The staff member will spend about 20 minutes with you. They will ask you questions about to find out how best to help you and to encourage you to succeed by yourself. They will offer advice on various aspects of writing and other study skills, though it may not be possible to deal with all of your issues in one sitting. Indeed, often the staff will talk show you how to improve one part of your writing and then encourage you to apply the same principles to the rest of your writing yourself.
- What should I bring?
For greater assistance, please bring any instructions you have for your assignment, any comments comments from your lecturers/tutors, and drafts of your writing. Also useful are lecture notes or any other resources associated with your course.
- Who can use the centre?
The Writing Centre is here to help students studying courses at the University of Adelaide. Students from any undergraduate or postgraduate course at any level may use the Centre for work associated with their courses. By "course", we mean a program of study with resources like lecture notes, readings or textbooks, and with explicit instructions for assessment. This does not include research projects you undertake under the guidance of a supervisor.
Unfortunately, we are not funded to help with writing not associated with a course at the University of Adelaide. In particular, we cannot help with the following issues: IELT preparation; preparation of CV's or job applications; postgraduate research theses, journal article writing or grant writing.
