We are pleased to advise the Adelaide University community that Canvas access has been restored, and teaching and learning can resume.
We understand how disruptive this global cyber security incident has been for staff and students, particularly during assessment periods, and we thank our community for their understanding. The safety of our community has been our number one priority as we have continued to work with Canvas and our Australian Government agencies to reach a resolution.
Temporary adjustments, including assessment extensions and other supports where needed, have been put in place to ensure fairness for all students.
As a precaution, we encourage all users to please remain alert to phishing or suspicious communications.
Further updates and guidance will be shared with students and staff as required and we thank our community for their patience and understanding while we continue to work with Canvas to respond to this global incident.

Updated Saturday 9 May, 11 am
Adelaide University has been notified of a global cyber security incident suffered by Canvas, the external provider of our learning management system.
We have been affected by this incident alongside other universities around the world and are working closely with Canvas.
We have been working closely with the University community to keep students and staff informed of developments.
Canvas has advised there is no indication that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers or financial information have been involved.
Adelaide University is actively monitoring the situation and is working closely with Canvas to understand the broad impacts of the breach.
The University community is being kept informed and has been asked to be vigilant following the incident.
As an interim precautionary measure, access to Canvas has been temporarily disabled while investigations continue.
What does this mean for our community?
- Given the emerging information from Canvas, the decision has been made to temporarily suspend access to Canvas (known at Adelaide University as myLearning) for staff and students until further notice.
- All students are automatically granted an extension until Friday 15 May for any assignments due between Friday 8 May and Monday 11 May.
- Do not log in into myLearning on desktop or the mobile app.
- On campus classes will continue as planned. Academics will communicate with students if teaching will be affected.
- Online learning is expected to be unavailable on Monday 11 May and will be rescheduled.
- Be alert for suspicious emails, texts or messages referencing Canvas, account verification or password resets. As a reminder, we will never ask you to reset your password via a text message or unsolicited email.
- If something feels wrong, don't click any links and contact our Technology Service Desk on (08) 8302 5000. You can also call if you need technical support.
- Please continue to check your key channels, including the Student Portal, Staff Portal, Services Hub, Teaching Hub and your University email for further updates.
