Support the development of the future workforce by hosting an intern from the University of Adelaide.

What is an internship?
An internship is a short-term placement where a student spends time within your company, business or organisation. They play a key role in building our students’ employability skills, professional connections and career-readiness.
An internship is an opportunity for students to gain practical experience in an organisation while studying at University. It gives students the opportunity to gain an insight into the operation of their field of study and develop an understanding of the issues central to their profession.
Internships allow organisations to get involved and develop the next generation of business leaders while gaining their new and creative insights into the profession.
Benefits of hosting University of Adelaide students?
- Get a head start on your future graduate recruitment – internships give an insight into how future graduates fit within the organisation, and increase awareness of your organisation and industry.
- Access to high calibre students who contribute new ideas and assist in your workplace.
- The ability to get specific projects achieved in a cost-effective way – there are typically no direct costs to hosting interns.
- The ability to form positive links with the University, hosting interns is one of many ways to engage with us.
- You can host more than one student at the same time. This is a great way to have a small team focused on your project, without increasing the supervision commitment. Students can also support each other and problem solve issues together.
Guidelines for host organisations
Guidelines for hosting an intern within your organisation:
- Ability to host an intern for a minimum of 15-20 days. Longer periods may be possible, depending on your needs
- Ability to provide appropriate workload of relevant and meaningful tasks for the student for the duration of the internship (no more than 10% clerical)
- Provide a project outline identifying the projects and tasks the student will work on – we can help you with the details of this
- Provide a safe and professional working environment that allows student/s to develop their knowledge
- Provision of appropriate work facilities including access to a desk, computer etc.
- Capacity to provide a supervisor for the intern while they are in your organisation
-
Students are insured by the University (assuming they are not employees of the host organisation), however hosts are required to maintain their own public liability insurance.

Finding the best intern
We help you find the best students for your project. We can help you scope your project and once finalised we advertise it to students, who apply direct to us online.
We will complete an initial shortlist to source the most suitable applicants then send you the shortlisted applications to review. From that point you can chose to interview any of those students or select the preferred student without interview – it’s entirely up to you how involved in this process you want to be. We will also prepare an Internship Agreement for you and the successful student once placed. Students undertake preparation activities before commencing their internship with you.
Our students have experience in a variety of fields and disciplines, some of which include:
Accounting | Finance | Project Management |
Agriculture | Food | Psychology |
Biology | General Business | Sciences |
Computer Science | Human Resources | Social Sciences |
Economics | Marketing | Wine |
Entrepreneurship | Media | Wine Business |
