Wine Alumni Network News
2021 Summer edition
Welcome to the 2021 Summer edition of the Wine Alumni Network newsletter.
We have come to the end of another year of living with COVID-19. I know it has been a difficult period for many of our alumni, with some affected by the China export issue along with the challenges associated with storms and hail. I hope for a better 2022.

Patrick Iland awarded The Gourmet Traveller Wine Len Evans Leadership Award
Our Patron, Patrick Iland OAM was recently awarded The Gourmet Traveller Len Evans Leadership Award. The University of Adelaide Wine Alumni Network congratulates Patrick on this achievement and his continued efforts to support the Network.
The award recognised his many years of teaching, first at Roseworthy Agricultural College and then at the University of Adelaide. It also acknowledged his achievements in writing and publishing educational wine books through his company, Patrick Iland Wine Promotions.
Nick Bulleid MW wrote of Patrick's achievements in Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine:
"Some people in the wine industry come to attention by the noise they make. Others do so simply by quiet excellence. Dr Patrick Iland is one of these.
What is a leader? It could be a Mussolini, who inspires followers through impassioned oratory and bogus claims. Or it could be an educator who, through research, education or the printed page, inspires many. This latter is Patrick Iland."
Dr Paul Grbin
Convenor, The University of Adelaide Wine Alumni Network.
