The Centre for High Performance Integrated Technologies and Systems (CHiPTec) conducts leading-edge research in high-performance microelectronics engineering.

The Centre is one of the longest established microelectronics research centres in Australia, and has a strong record in attracting competitive research grants. In addition to fundamental research, CHiPTec is involved in numerous industry-focussed projects and has forged strong partnerships with organisations both within Australia and overseas.

The core technical capabilities of CHiPTec include:

  • Mixed analogue-digital VLSI systems
  • High speed digital circuits and systems
  • Systems integration

  • Parallel architectures and algorithms
  • Digital arithmetic

CHiPTec has been involved in providing education and industry training in microelectronics for more than 20 years. As well as offering technical education, CHiPTec is actively engaged in the promotion of the microelectronics industry and is working to attract and educate engineers to secure the future health of the industry.

Research Focus:
Architectures for Artificial Intelligence

Our aim is to create new machines, inspired by nature and better suited to problems from the field of Artificial Intelligence than the ubiquitous von Neumann architecture used in today's microprocessors.

Integrated RF Systems

The aim is to design single-chip RF systems integrating everything from the analog RF front-end to the digital baseband processing. This research focus brings together many of CHiPTec's areas of expertise including RF and analog design, DSP and MIMO radar.
