Bioinformatics is developing at lightning speed, thanks to fast-evolving technology and advances in genomics and proteomics. There’s a strong demand for experts skilled in managing and analysing vast amounts of biological data.

Bioinformatics is a still-new science that will lead to new biological discoveries. For example, in one research project at the University of Adelaide, we are analysing the patterns of gene expression altered by Traditional Chinese Medicine in cancers as a way to understand the biological basis of these treatments.

The Master of Bioinformatics is an innovative postgraduate program combining coursework and a major research project.

It’s focused on applying bioinformatic analyses to real world problems in human health and agriculture.

The program has a strong experimental and application focus. You’ll discover data generation technology platforms and develop competitive analytical and research skills.

You’ll also explore the many interlinked issues in translational bioinformatic research, translation and development.

    Graduate Entry A completed Bachelor degree or equivalent with a minimum GPA of 5.0

    The completed degree must be in the field of either Mathematical, Computer or Natural Sciences (or equivalent).

    In addition, at least the following courses (or equivalent) must have been completed: - Maths 1A and Maths 1B,
    - Introduction to Programming,
    - Introduction to Biology/Biochemistry/Chemistry/Physics.

    For individual courses, assessment includes examinations, written and oral assignments and investigative projects (both individual and group). The research project is assessed by a literature review, research proposal, seminar, viva voce and a thesis.
