Graduate Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy
Create connection
Counsellors support others in exploring and overcoming emotional, mental and lifestyle issues. Counselling is a rewarding career choice for those who want to work with people, develop personal wisdom and transform lives.
Because our graduate certificate offers recognition for prior learning, it’s well suited to people who’ve worked in counselling-related roles before.
What will you do?
- Undertake two core courses and two electives.
- Learn from academics with extensive professional counselling experience.
- Practise and improve key skills through case-based learning.
- Build theoretical understandings.
Where could it take you?
You’ll have the option to continue your studies with the Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy. With further training under your belt, you could run a private practice or conduct group therapy at a wellbeing centre. You might support young people in your community through roles and programs in schools or youth work. Perhaps you’ll be a relationship or return-to-work counsellor.

Entry Requirements
For those who are based in Adelaide, we will be offering a blended delivery mode that combines face-to-face with remote learning in as many courses as possible, taking into consideration social distancing and hygiene. All lectures will continue to be delivered online for the remainder of the year, with some exceptions.
For our students who are studying offshore for the remainder of the 2020 Academic Year, the University will continue to offer high-quality access to the learning resources remotely. This includes all lectures, tutorials and other support material. Students will be advised in advance if there are course components that cannot be provided in remote mode and, wherever possible, offered alternative courses.
