  • Biography/ Background

Although a native of Scotland, I spent many years living and working in Canada. After graduating from the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph, I worked for two years in equine racetrack practice in Toronto. Following a move to Australia (made easier by the prospect of no longer having to dig the car out of a snowdrift), I spent a further three years in mixed equine practice before switching to companion animals (following the realization that a canine caesarian requires less sleep deprivation than an equine colic surgery). Having completed an MBA through the University of South Australia, I subsequently developed a strong interest in improving the business and lifestyle aspects of veterinary practice and, along with my clinical interests, have provided mangement advice, practice valuation services and business consultancy. As a director of the Australian Veterinary Business Association, I am also involved in providing continuing education opportunities to veterinarians and their staff.

  • Teaching Interests

In co-ordinating the extra-mural program, I have a strong desire to help students gain exposure to situations which will ensure the best possible learning experience. I would like to ensure that graduates have the 'Day One' skills in both clinical and life/business areas to allow them to survive and thrive in an ever more challenging workplace.
