Dr Dominic McAfee

• Biography/ Background

  I am a marine ecologist specialising in marine ecosystem restoration. I combine marine ecology with soical science approaches to support, in particular, the social and ecological restoration of Australia's lost oyster reefs. My restoration work also includes the recovery of seagrass meadows, kelp forests, and mangroves in multi-species assemblages. Over the past decade I investigated the role of marine habitat-forming species (oysters, mangroves, seagrass) to protect coastal biodiversity from the extremities of climate change, conducting my research along the east coast of Australia and in Hong Kong. 

  
  At The University of Adelaide I am working with Prof Sean Connell, to enhance South Australia's blue infrastructure through the restoration of oyster reefs which were once abundant on Australia's southern coastline. This project is a collaboration with the South Australian government, industry, and community groups, to collectively restore multi-species ecosystems across the state.
