Biography/ BackgroundAssociate Professor Ian Chapman is a medical graduate (MBBS University of Adelaide 1982) with specialist training as an endocrinologist (FRACP 1989). He completed a PhD in growth hormone physiology at Flinders University in 1993 and then undertook postdoctoral work on growth hormone and ageing at the University of Virginia in the United States.
Since 1996 he has been at the University of Adelaide where he undertakes clinical research in nutrition and ageing (particularly under-nutrition), the endocrinology of ageing, diabetes and other aspects of endocrinology. He has supervised honours students and 5 PhD students and has over 80 publications arising from his research, which is funded by the NHMRC and other bodies.
He continues to practice as an endocrinologist, mainly in the Royal Adelaide Hospital, and has a particular interest in pituitary disorders and adults with inborn errors of metabolism.
He is involved in under-graduate and post-graduate medical education, is chair of the committee running the year 4/5 medical student research program and is a member of the Medical School Admission Committee.
