Professor Jon Kellett
  • Biography/ Background

     Jon is an urban planner with research interests in urban sustainability, energy and climate change. He was awarded his PhD at Sheffield Hallam University in 1983 and his Masters of Civic Design (Urban & Regional Planning) at the University of Liverpool in 1978. His first degree is in Archaeology and Ancient History from the University of Sheffield. From 1985-2005 Jon taught urban planning, property and environmental subjects at Sheffield Hallam University. During that period he developed a strong research interest in renewable energy and worked on projects for a variety of organisations including the UK Building Research Establishment, Greenpeace and the European Commission. He was also responsible for the development of a novel Masters Program in Energy and Environment and won a major funding grant to deliver this in distance learning format. In 2005 he moved to the University of South Australia and in 2007 assumed the leadership of the urban & regional planning discipline. He was Associate Professor of Urban & Regional planning at UniSA until moving to the University of Adelaide in 2014.

    Jon is the Program Co-ordinator for the Master of Planning and  the Master of Planning (Urban Design). He is currently teaching courses in Planning Theory and Practice, Planning Policy & Regulation and Development & Construction.

  • Research Funding

    Over the period 2006 - present Jon has been Chief Investigator on three Australian Research Council Linkage funded projects looking at   Carbon Neutral Communities, the Life Cycle Affordability of Housing and the Integrated Assessment of Urban Sustainability. He has also worked on a number of research projects relating to climate change adaptation namely Learning from Regional Climate Analogues and Quantifying the Cost of Climate Change Impacts on Local Government Assets, both commissioned by the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility. He has recently been involved in researching policy response mechanisms to sea level rise via a Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency funded project on Climate Change Decision Support Framework and Software for Local Councils.
