Disability Support periodically recruits students who may be interested in working as Participation Assistants on a casual basis during semester periods. This is a paid position.
Participation Assistants are employed to assist particular students with a disability with completing specific hands-on tasks in class, where the student is unable to complete those tasks independently. The tasks that a Participation Assistant may undertake will vary, depending on the nature of the student’s disability and the specific requirements of the course/s they are studying. Participation Assistants do not provide academic support, nor assist with writing or editing assignments.
Participation Assistants will be completing tasks as requested by the student during class times only. As such, days / hours of classes will vary according to the student’s enrolment. These positions would suit students who may only be interested in 1-2 hours per week, or who may be interested in assisting in longer classes (e.g. 4 hour labs / practicals).
To be eligible to apply you will need:
- To have successfully completed at least 12 months of study
- A current DSCI – Child-related Employment Screening clearance, or willingness to get this
- Interest in working with students with a disability
The role is a recognised activity of the University’s Adelaide Graduate Award program.
If you are interested, please contact the Disability Support team by email at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. You do not need to send a resume or formal application for this position, just let us know that you might be interested in this role and we will arrange a time to meet with you to discuss the position in more detail.
