Get Gardening at North Terrace & Waite
The edible gardens provide a place for staff and students to share gardening skills, meet fellow green-thumbs and pick fresh produce to eat.
Funded in 2014 and 2015 through the Green Project Fund, the gardens are maintained by student and staff volunteers through regular working bees.
Studies have shown that increased levels of serotonin and dopamine are triggered by the sight, smell and action of picking produce and quite literally, getting your hands dirty in a veggie plot. So take a wander into one of the edible gardens, chill out for a while and consider getting involved.
Hub Central Edible Garden
The Edible Garden is located on the eastern patio of Hub Central, right outside the student kitchen. The garden features raised beds, a rain water tank, tool shed and solar panels, with much of the design undertaken through a Bachelor of Environmental Policy and Management student internship.
Staff and students are welcome to dig around, pick edible herbs, fruit and vegetables for their lunch and get involved in events throughout the year, including Permaculture workshops, pesto-making afternoons and working bees.

Waite Community Garden
Located behind Lirra Lirra Cafe, the Waite Community Garden aims to foster an appreciation of the benefits and challenges of growing fresh produce at home and in the local community. Users can learn about worm farming, waste minimisation, management of pests, disease and weeds, and how to work together to produce great results.
As founder of the garden Ryan Farquharson says, "We don’t just grow food, we grow relationships too."
