Inspired by International Biodesign courses and run in conjunction with Accelerating Australia and Australian eChallenge, Adelaide Biodesign brings together people with a passion for design, thinking and discovery in medicine. Participants form multidisciplinary teams and work together to innovate and create their own novel solutions for unmet medical needs.
What makes our course different to other entrepreneurship programs is that our teams will receive unprecedented access to hospitals, clinics and patient support organisations in order to undertake a clinical emersion guided by practicing clinicians. This opportunity gives Biodesign participants the opportunity to emerse themselves in a medical environment in order to find pain points and use these to innovate creative solutions.
Teams are assembled by Biodesign staff to ensure versatile groups who will go through the ten week program mentored by experienced biomedical entrepreneurs to produce real, investable inventions. We are looking for business professionals, doctors, scientists and engineers from undergraduate student, early career researchers through to professionals with extensive experience in their field.
The Adelaide Biodesign course also functions as a precursor to the Australian eChallenge with participants going on to gain further entrepreneurial knowledge and experience and the chance to win the $10,000.00 prize at the conclusion of that ten week program.
Adelaide Enterprise and ThincLab will continue to offer support to successful Biodesign teams to further develop their innovations.

How do I register for Adelaide Biodesign?

Do I also have to register for Australian eChallenge?
Adelaide Biodesign participants are required to partake in the Australian eChallenge. Once registered for Adelaide Biodesign, our staff will assess your student status and either register you on your behalf (non UoA students) or direct you to the appropriate enrollment page.
How much does the course cost?
Adelaide Biodesign charges a flat $400 fee which covers the ten week biomedical entrepreneurship course, catering each week, clinical placements, professional mentoring, post-course support from Adelaide Enterprise and other exclusive experiences provided by our industry contacts.
In addition, Australian eChallenge charge students and UoA staff $250 and external participants $500 for their ten week entrepreneurship program.
Eligible University of Adelaide students can enroll in the eChallenge as an elective subject (utilising HECS-HELP - so no upfront payment) and HDRs are also eligible for up to 30 CaRST credits.
Your individual fee will be determined based on your student status and you will be invoiced upon acceptance of your application.
