Global Conservation Drone Program

Interest in the use of drones for conservation is growing.

Drone being used for conservation researchThe proliferation of inexpensive consumer-grade drones has made this technology widely accessible.

However, without a systematic approach to developing an organisation-wide drone training and implementation program, one-off drone projects run a high risk of failing to achieve the intended benefits of this promising technology.

Another key activity of the Centre is the development of an integrated drone program for conservation practitioners to acquire standardised and statistically robust data to increase its capacity for monitoring and communication. This will be supported by the University's Unmanned Research Aircraft Facility.
