Green Urban Futures and Planetary Health

Many cities are facing a climate future which is increasingly hot and dry, with temperatures rising and rainfall declining. The increase in extreme temperatures is especially alarming with the potential to have catastrophic impacts on human health, particularly the elderly and people with comorbidities. These increasing temperatures will also adversely impact ecosystem health and biodiversity, and it is crucial to future-proof against these changes as quickly as possible. Our researchers work on improving community health and wellbeing by building resilience to the impacts of heatwaves, understanding climate and biosecurity risks to the urban forest and the valuation of greenspace for improved urban spaces and climate resilient and ecologically vibrant cities.
