Wombats Through Time and Space
Welcome to Wombats Through Time and Space: a celebration of research into all things wombat, and the 20th anniversary of the first edition of the Wombat book, fondly known as 'The Wombat Bible'. The conference will be held from Monday 17th - Wednesday 19th of September at the University of Adelaide.
Only 1 week to go before the conference! We are getting very excited and are looking forward to meeting everyone and listening to all the presentations, as well as to meet the furry participants. I know that some people will be bringing their pouch young, and there will be a couple of wombats (southern hairy-nosed and common) that you can all get up close to and meet. I have added several more abstracts to the conference handbook, and it is possible that I will add more over the next week. We will provide the latest version to everyone on arrival if you would like a hard copy, so there is no need to print it out just yet.
We have managed to secure the support of two more sponsors for the conference:
Mrs Mary Holt, who is the patron of Wombats SA, and her late husband, Dr John Holt, have generously offered to provided support for the conference. Mrs Holt is a passionate advocate and supporter of Australian native wildlife, and we would like to thank Mrs Holt for her assistance.
CSIRO Publishing produces a number of scientific publications which highlight and discuss the latest scientific research on Australian native wildlife, including 'Australian Mammalogy', 'Wildlife Research' and the 'Australian Journal of Zoology'. CSIRO Publishing will be providing a cash prize for the best presentation by a student at the conference.
The conference program is out, and it is looking fantastic! We have a full schedule covering all three days of the conference, with presentations on a wide variety of topics covering all three species of wombats. There will even be an opportunity for you a chance to meet and get up close with both southern hairy-nosed and common wombats. So take a look at the schedule at the 'Program' link, and we look forward to seeing you all there!
