Community Outreach Dental Program Appeal
Can you imagine waiting years for basic dental care?
The Community Outreach Dental Program was established by the University of Adelaide in 2011. The program supports some of the most vulnerable people in our society, including people who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness, as well as those who have arrived in Adelaide as refugees. The program provides them with access to dental care that they may otherwise not receive. Ten percent of our patients in the last year were refugees ineligible for many other support services. It’s crucial that we can provide quality Oral Health.
A gift of $30 per month will change the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our society. Please donate today.
Saher, patient of the Community Outreach Dental Program.
Saher fled from south western Iran to Australia in 2013. As a refugee in Australia, Saher could not afford the dental care he needed.
Saher was treated for excruciating dental pain, receiving four fillings and a root canal. Finally free from pain, Saher was able to learn English and gain employment as a mechanic.
"I really appreciate how they helped me. I will never forget it. It change my life." - Saher
Volunteer dentist and alumna, Dr Laura Petroff, patient Sue Watson and dental assistant Amanda Drewer
Sue was dealing with homelessness, domestic violence and personal hardship when she first visited the clinic in 2014.
She had suffered from poor oral health for a number of years. Sue was referred to the Community Outreach Dental Program for much needed assistance.
“They really did save my life. I was shattered and I didn’t want to talk to people. I was promised new teeth, and by George I got them,” Sue told me.
The care provided by the Clinic helped Sue regain her self-confidence, take up part-time work and study to become a horticulturalist.
With demand for the program continuing to grow, we need your support today to make sure people have access to this service now and into the future.
The clinic is only able to operate because of the support it receives from its generous donors, a loyal volunteer base and in-kind suppliers. Your donation today will change the lives of some of the most vulnerable in our society. Please give today.
