Geography grant helps rural students

In November 2022, Emeritus Professor Andrew Smith FAA together with his daughters, Dr Hilary Smith and Dr Caroline Smith, established an endowed fund, the Graeme Hugo AO Commencement Grant for Geography, for students studying Geography and Environmental Policy and Management at the University of Adelaide.

At the ‘Take a Seat’ celebration, University of Adelaide Chancellor and alumna, The Hon Cathy Branson AC KC recalled in her speech, “There was talk, serious talk, about knocking it down to build something new and modern – something “more fit for purpose. This provoked quite a fiery debate, and protests, and thankfully those on the side of history won, and the Hall was saved from the wrecking ball.
