With its roots going back to the late 1800s, the Nurses Memorial Foundation of South Australia has a long history of playing a pivotal role in advancing the nursing profession through fostering learning outcomes, giving back to community and offering financial assistance.
More than 50 years ago, Ella Syme Everard (nee Russell) bequeathed her estate of approximately $260,000 (the equivalent of approximately $3.2 million AUD today) to the University of Adelaide to establish scholarships in the memory of her late husband, Charles John Everard.
In November 2022, Emeritus Professor Andrew Smith FAA together with his daughters, Dr Hilary Smith and Dr Caroline Smith, established an endowed fund, the Graeme Hugo AO Commencement Grant for Geography for students studying Geography and Environmental Policy and Management at the University of Adelaide.
At the ‘Take a Seat’ celebration, University of Adelaide Chancellor and alumna, The Hon Cathy Branson AC KC recalled in her speech, “There was talk, serious talk, about knocking it down to build something new and modern – something “more fit for purpose. This provoked quite a fiery debate, and protests, and thankfully those on the side of history won, and the Hall was saved from the wrecking ball.
