Council Selection Committee

The University of Adelaide Council has a Selection Committee in accordance with Section 12 (1) (c) of the University of Adelaide Act 1971.

The Council Selection Committee consists of the Chancellor and six other persons, three of whom are appointed by the Chancellor, and three by the presiding member of the Graduate Association (Alumni Association) (now the Chair of the Alumni Council). Three of the members must be graduates of the University of Adelaide.

Apart from the Chancellor, the Council Selection Committee membership is to be made up of members who are not members of Council or Council sub committees (Section 12 (6) The University of Adelaide Act 1971 ).

The Chancellor chairs the Committee and the Council Secretary is secretary to the Committee.

The Council Selection Committee meets on a needs basis and at least every year to consider appointments to fill the vacancies of those whose terms are due to expire.

The criteria for the appointments are as per the University of Adelaide Act 1971 sections 12 (1) (d), 12 (2), 12 (3), 12 (4), 12 (6) and 12A (1) and in accordance with the requirements of paragraphs 7 and 8 of the Voluntary Code of Best Practice for the Governance of Australian Universities.

All members of the Council Selection Committee provide names and CVs of possible candidates for appointment.

Council is informed of any changes in the Council Selection Committee membership. The Council Selection Committee makes recommendations on people to be appointed to Council for Council's approval.
